Social Network Groups
Another popular way to engage with your target audience is to form or join specific social network based groups. These groups can be helpful in establishing and increasing your circle of influence. They are also a very effective way to segment your target audience for specific marketing campaigns. There are no clear rules for forming or participating in social network based groups but a few common sense principles still apply.
- Be kind, courteous and contribute to the benefit of the groups’ membership on a regular basis.
- Conduct yourself online in the same manner you conduct yourself offline. Warning, if you are not a nice and thoughtful person offline you will not last long online. Be professional and treat other people, as you would like to be treated.
- Do not spam the groups you are involved in. Keep your contributions on point and in context with the discussion of the group. Make sure you do not deviate from the current discussion unless it is pertinent and contributes to the knowledge and prosperity of other group members.
- Provide high quality information. Establishing yourself as an expert is easy if you provide valuable insight and expertise freely to other group members. Sharing your knowledge helps build trust and credibility within the group.
- Do not pitch products or services to other group members or take a direct sales approach in your postings unless the group requests it. Social networking is about indirect marketing messages. The more you share, the more people want to know what you can do for them or their friends.
- When establishing or managing a group be very selective of the members. Monitor the conversations and create a community of conservative creativity and communication. If you build your group like this, the group will be more effective and desirable to others because of its high quality approach.
